SNORKELING - Snorkeling is Rarotonga's most popular activity which everyone can enjoy. Rarotonga has 3 excellent snorkeling areas which have a wide variety of colorful coral and exotic fish. The surrounding reef protects you from all the deep ocean creatures and ensures you a safe snorkeling adventure. Snorkeling on Rarotonga Island MURI BEACH has a beautiful lagoon where you may snorkel between the islet and the reef. TIKIOKI-FRUITS OF RAROTONGA has exceptional swimming and snorkeling where you will see rainbow fish, large parrotfish, angelfish, trevally and many more. BLACKROCK is usually the calmest place to snorkel because of the trade winds. Click here for your complete snorkeling guide including site map.

SNORKELING EQUIPMENT
- You may purchase snorkeling equipment at the Dive Shop located downtown Avarua, Rarotonga. Prices are very reasonable in New Zealand Dollars. See: Guide on basic snorkeling equipment and proper use.

SCUBA DIVING - Diving in Rarotonga is excellent. There are many diving locations with superb visibility (100-200 feet). There are wrecks to explore as well as brilliantly coloured coral and fish. The most most interesting faset is the drop-off which starts at around 100 feet and desends vertically down to 12,000 feet. There are also two wrecks to explore and fish to hand-feed. Canyons, caves, and varieties of coral, including plate, shelving, mushroom and brain, make it a most unusual terrain. Rarotonga is an ideal place to learn scuba diving. The tuition offered is professional and fees are probably the lowest in the world and your international qualification will enable you to dive anywhere - at home or overseas.. International certification courses: PADI

You are able to buy diving or snorkeling equipment at the Dive Shop in Avarua. They carry a wide range of diving accessories. There are four dive operators on Rarotonga island: DIVE RAROTONGA, COOK ISLAND DIVERS, THE DIVE CENTRE AND PACIFIC DIVERS.
